Recognizing the signs is the first step
Process addictions come in many forms, from gambling and gaming to shopping and compulsive internet use, and sufferers are often skilled at hiding their habits, so families may only see the strain long after the behavior has taken hold. If several of these signs of behavioral addiction feel familiar, it’s worth a confidential conversation.
Common signs of a process addiction
- Struggling to stop a compulsive behavior despite trying
- Escalating time and intensity spent on the activity
- Preoccupation with the behavior between sessions
- Continuing despite serious financial, career or health consequences
- Secrecy and denial, hiding the habit from family and colleagues
- Growing strain on relationships at home or at work
What happens when you try to stop
- Restlessness and irritability when the behavior is cut off
- Anxiety that builds until the urge wins out
- A flat, low mood without the activity
- Intense urges that override good intentions
- Returning to the behavior despite firm resolutions to stop
If any of this feels familiar, please reach out.

Three reasons families choose us
Western clinical care, Eastern calm
Proven therapies for process addiction, including CBT, one-to-one counseling and group work, alongside fitness, nutrition and mindfulness that rebuild the whole person, not just the behavior.
A program shaped around you
With only twelve clients on site, your process addiction treatment plan is built by a psychiatrist around your history and the specific behavior you are facing, never slotted into a fixed curriculum.
Care when urges hit hardest
A 2:1 staff-to-client ratio and 24/7 medical cover mean someone is always there, through the night, the strongest urges and the hardest moments.
A holistic approach to process addictions
A process addiction works on the same reward system a substance does; the dependence forms on the feeling the behavior provides, no substance required. That is why gambling, gaming, shopping or compulsive internet use can do as much damage to finances, relationships and careers as any drug, and why willpower alone so rarely ends a behavioral addiction.
Process addiction treatment here begins with a thorough clinical assessment, then targets the specific behavior and the drivers underneath it through one-to-one counseling and evidence-based behavioral therapy, supported by mindfulness, meditation and exercise inside a calm, private setting designed to make the work possible.
Three pillars of recovery
Understanding the behavior first
No two process addictions look the same, so treatment begins with a thorough clinical assessment to identify the specific behavior, how far it has progressed, and any co-occurring mental or physical health issues feeding it.
From day one of treatment you step into a calm, structured routine away from the behavior and its cues, with our team around you, so the compulsion loses its grip while the real work of recovery begins.
- Comprehensive clinical assessment on arrival
- Screening for co-occurring conditions
- A structured daily routine away from the behavior
“You cannot treat a behavior you have not understood. The assessment tells us exactly what we are working with.”
Getting to the root of the compulsion
A process addiction is rarely about the activity itself. The behavior becomes a way of coping, and the dependence forms on the feeling it provides rather than on any substance.
Through one-to-one counseling, group sessions and evidence-based behavioral therapy, you will uncover the drivers beneath the compulsive behavior and learn to recognize the triggers and mental cues that set it off, so they lose their power over you.
- One-to-one counseling with experienced therapists
- Group sessions and evidence-based behavioral therapy
- Understanding your triggers and mental cues
“Lasting change starts when you understand what the behavior has been doing for you, not just what it has been doing to you.”
Built for life after rehab
Recovery from a process addiction holds when mind and body are rebuilt together, and when you leave with a plan rather than just willpower.
Mindfulness, meditation, exercise and wellness therapy become part of your day, and before you go home we design a tailor-made relapse prevention plan for your specific behavior, so it has no easy way back into your life.
- Mindfulness, meditation and exercise woven into daily life
- Wellness therapy in a peaceful, private setting
- A tailor-made relapse prevention plan
“Recovery is a life-long journey. Our job is to make sure you leave with the tools to keep the behavior out of your life for good.”

Why distance makes recovery possible
Trying to break a compulsive behavior at home means staying within easy reach of it, surrounded by the cues, devices and routines that keep the cycle turning. Residential process addiction treatment removes that access entirely and replaces it with a peaceful, structured environment and round-the-clock support, so all of your energy goes into recovery.
Distance from triggers
Away from the people, places and routines that keep the compulsion turning.
Round-the-clock supervision
Resort-calm surroundings backed by qualified medical staff, day and night.
A plan built for you
A program tailored to your clinical picture, not a fixed curriculum.
A real therapeutic community
A hard cap of twelve clients means genuine attention and deeper connection.
Is it time to consider process addiction treatment?
A process addiction, also known as a behavioral addiction, affects people who compulsively engage in a behavior or activity without being able to stop themselves, despite knowing the potential consequences. The most common forms of process addiction include gambling, gaming, internet use, shopping, sex and love addiction, exercise addiction, codependency and eating disorders, and together they affect even more people than substance addiction.
For a long time, addiction was thought of as a physical dependency on a substance, and even experts disputed whether behavioral addiction was a real disease. That has changed; process addiction is now widely accepted as a genuine health condition, recognized by many of the world’s leading healthcare bodies. The dependence forms not on a drug but on the feeling a behavior or activity provides, which is why the scientific and therapeutic communities now see little difference between process and substance addiction.
Left untreated, a process addiction tends to escalate. Sufferers are often skilled at hiding their habits, and many families only understand the cause after extreme consequences, such as having to sell a property to cover gambling debts. Strained relationships at home and at work, career problems and mounting mental and physical health issues are common, and behavioral addictions are on the rise as more of daily life moves online.
Acknowledging the problem takes real courage, and any addiction, no matter how challenging it may seem, can be overcome with the right process addiction treatment. If a compulsive behavior has taken hold of your life or the life of someone you love, a quiet, confidential conversation with our team is a good place to start.

Frequently asked questions
What do I do next?
If you are interested to come to The Diamond, please fill in the admission form and we will contact you ASAP. You can also call us on +61 2 7908 2277
Is there an aftercare program?
Aftercare is essential, and therefore we offer two ways to do aftercare. Option one would be that you have weekly zoom meetings with your focal counselor, who also treated you while at our center. Option two is that we bring you in contact with one of our aftercare partners around the world, depending on where you live.
Will I be picked up at the airport?
Yes, our driver will be waiting for you at the airport to bring you to our center.
How can I help my loved one?
At The Diamond Rehab Thailand we are experts in getting your loved ones into treatment. To start you can show your loved one our website and they will probably soon take an interest in our treatment center. If need be, we also can arrange an intervention at your home done by a professional interventionist arranged by The Diamond Rehab Thailand.
Is my stay completely confidential?
Yes. Discretion is fundamental to how we operate, from your first call through to your time on site and aftercare. Private accommodation and careful handling of every detail are standard.
What does treatment cost?
Our fee is all inclusive, covering accommodation, clinical care, therapy, meals and excursions in one transparent figure with no hidden extras. Because length of stay varies, we discuss specific numbers on a confidential call.
Can family be involved in the recovery?
Family therapy is part of our approach, and we keep loved ones appropriately informed and supported throughout. Recovery is far stronger when the people around you are part of it.
What types of behaviours can become process addictions?
Process addictions come in many shapes and forms. Common examples include gambling, gaming, internet use, shopping, sex and love addiction, exercise addiction, codependency and eating disorders. Such disorders are on the rise, especially as people spend more time online, so knowing the signs matters; if you are unsure whether a behavior has crossed the line, our team can help you make sense of it.
Is a process addiction as serious as a substance addiction?
Yes. Many people still assume a process addiction has less impact on a person's life than a substance addiction, but the scientific and therapeutic communities now see little difference between the two. The dependence forms on the feeling the behavior provides rather than on a drug, and left untreated the consequences are very similar: damaged finances, strained relationships, career problems and mental and physical health issues.
How is process addiction treated at The Diamond Rehab Thailand?
There is no single process addiction treatment that works for everyone, so we take the time to understand your situation and build a bespoke, long-term plan around the specific behavior. Depending on your needs it may incorporate one-to-one counseling, group sessions, behavioral therapy, mindfulness programs, meditation, exercise and wellness therapy, delivered in a peaceful, private setting in Hua Hin by experienced therapists, psychologists and counseling specialists.
