Mental Health and Rehab Center: The Diamond Rehab Thailand

Mindfulness retreat in Thailand

Mindfulness is all about being aware of the present moment. At mindfulness retreats, therapies can range from meditation to yoga. Contrary to popular belief, a mindfulness meditation retreat isn’t specifically purposed to make you feel relaxed, though that’s a common positive side effect. Rather, mindful meditation retreats exist to help you become aware of your thoughts in the present moment so that you can embrace your feelings, improve mental health and even overcome addictions.

At The Diamond Rehab Thailand, we’re a 5-star mindfulness retreat in Thailand, located by the coast on the island of Phuket. Thanks to having a team of qualified psychotherapists, mindful therapists, behavioral therapists and fitness instructors that specialize in helping people suffering with mental health issues, we can utilize effective mindfulness techniques as treatment for PTSD, substance use disorders, depression, stress and anxiety. And, while you undergo therapy at our mindful meditation retreat, you can enjoy facilities ranging from international standard restaurants to spas.

Our mindfulness retreat in Thailand is the perfect place to unwind, escape the stresses of daily life, discover healthy ways to manage negative thoughts and avoid turning to substances to deal with mental health issues. If you want to change your life forever, we encourage you to learn more about our mindfulness-based treatment approaches.

  • What is EMDR therapy treatment?

  • How does EMDR therapy work?

  • What to expect

EMDR therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy that is used to relieve psychological stress caused by distressing or traumatic life experiences. Developed in 1987, EMDR treatment was initially used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Today, EMDR is used for a wide range of issues, including drug and alcohol abuse, which often co-occur with PTSD, as well as mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

EMDR works by diverting your attention from the memory of the distressful event. This dampens emotionally charged memories and allows you to be exposed to your thoughts and recollections without inducing a strong psychological response.

Like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), there is a substantial body of evidence supporting the efficacy of EMDR. There have been dozens of positive controlled outcome studies on EMDR, with many showing that it can effectively reduce a range of trauma-related symptoms. The United States Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense have issued clinical practice guidelines that “strongly recommended” EMDR treatment for PTSD.

EMDR therapy can help reduce the severity of many trauma-related symptoms, including:

  • Hallucinations
  • Delusions
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Nightmares

EMDR gives you the opportunity to explore trauma in a safe environment. During EMDR therapy, your therapist will invite you to focus on the memory of the traumatic experience.

While reliving these troubling experiences, your therapist will direct your eye movements with their hand gestures, toe taps or musical tones. This bilateral stimulation helps reduce the emotional charge associated with the memory. With repetition, the intensity of the feelings, sensations and thoughts associated with the traumatic event is gradually diminished, allowing you to process, understand and ultimately come to terms with your past experiences. With acceptance of the past comes the opportunity for future growth.

EMDR is an eight-phase treatment method, which takes place over the course of 10-12 sessions.

  • Phase 1: History and treatment planning
  • Phase 2: Preparation
  • Phase 3: Assessment
  • Phase 4: Desensitisation
  • Phase 5: Installation
  • Phase 6: Body scan
  • Phase 7: Closure
  • Phase 8: Re-evaluation

What to expect from a EMDR residential treatment program

In contrast to many prescription medications, there are very few side effects associated with EMDR treatment. Perhaps the most notable side effect is a heightened sense of awareness and mental clarity, which can persist for some hours after a therapy session. This can cause some light-headedness and lead to vivid dreams.

It is important to note that EMDR can initially be triggering because it encourages you to relive traumatic events and face painful memories head-on. Early EMDR therapy sessions can be challenging, but as you progress you will develop effective coping strategies to mitigate the negative thoughts and emotions connected to the trauma. Learning to acknowledge and manage emotional stress is a central part of recovery and will enable you to remain grounded long after you graduate from our EMDR residential treatment program.

Who can benefit from EMDR residential treatment?

EMDR therapy is an effective treatment option for people living with trauma and PTSD. Because drug and alcohol abuse are often inextricably linked with trauma, EMDR addiction treatment can also be an effective tool for treating substance abuse problems.

The vast majority of patients report substantial improvement after completing EMDR residential treatment. Not only does EMDR help reduce the severity of trauma-related symptoms, but it can also give you a great sense of empowerment, self-identity and personal equilibrium – essential traits for processing the past and dealing with any challenging experiences that lie ahead.

How much does EMDR inpatient therapy treatment cost?

As one of Asia’s leading EMDR inpatient treatment centers, we understand that cost is one of the most common barriers preventing people from obtaining the help they require. That’s why we strive to keep our prices fair and competitive while making no compromises in regard to the quality of our facilities or the level of care we provide.

The low cost of living in Thailand allows us to deliver a truly exceptional healing experience at prices that simply can’t be matched by similarly equipped EMDR trauma therapy facilities in Western countries – even after factoring in the cost of flights. Our prices represent fantastic value for anyone who is seeking a world-class therapeutic experience in a beautiful location.

Frequently asked questions

Can clients leave the rehab?

The clients can only leave the property under the care of our therapeutic team.

Do I have access to my laptop, phone, etc.?

Yes, on set times, you will have access to communicate with the outside world.

Can I have visitors and contact with loved ones?

Yes, you can. Visitors and loved ones can even stay in the rehab in the same room (for extra costs) and if need be, we can offer couple counseling with your focal therapist.

How long will it take?

This depends on the situation. E.g. does the client need a detox? Is addiction the main problem or are the underlying issues more concerning? It is important that the client finish what he/she signed up for. Overall, we advise that 6 -8 weeks in treatment is average and gives the client a good foundation to start a new life at home with the proper aftercare.
